JAKARTA: PT Steadfast Marine received order to build four vessels from two local companies, including PT AKR Corporindo Tbk.

The company is currently building those four vessels in a shipyard in Pontianak, West Borneo, President Director Eddy Kurniawan Logam said.

“Three vessels for PT AKR Corporindo Tbk, while a 2,500-ton dredger for another local company,” he said yesterday.

As ordered, the company builds those vessels by employing European design.

However, Eddy declined to detail the contract value and name of the other company.

According to him, PT AKR Corporindo Tbk ordered one unit self propelled oil barge with 1.000 tons capacity, one double bottom oil barge with 5,000 tons capacity, and one tugboat with 1,600 horse power.

The company begins to build those vessels in Pontianak last week along with the initial cutting of plate in front of AKR’s Directors and Commissioners.

It shows that national shipyard industry still has the opportunity to obtain order, Eddy who also the Chairman of Indonesian Offshore Industry and Shipping Association (Iperindo) said.

He is optimistic that national shipyard industry will receive numerous orders to build vessels from local companies in the future.

“There will be numerous orders as long as the industry is committed to maintain production quality,” he added.

Since its establishment in 2005, PT Steadfast Marine has always received numerous orders to build various types of vessels. “We build at least five new vessels each year for local and foreign companies.”

The company also develops shipyard industry in Balikpapan that engages in vessels reparation.

The development of shipyard industry in Balikpapan is aimed to anticipate the growing number of Indonesian flag fleet following the impelementation of cabotage principle. (T06/NOM)
