JAKARTA: The multi-purpose sports car market share tends to increase for the next 5 years, triggered by consumers’ trend in choosing the vehicle and the road condition.
Riyanto, analyst from Economic and social investigation institute, Faculty of Economy, University of Indonesia, said that since last 3-4 years seen consumers tend to choose multi-purpose sports car or sport utility vehicle (SUV) which reduced the impact from sedan market.
He said the SUV enthusiasts who seem more manly strong and powerful are not only male, but also among women who felt more confident driving it.
The market trend has caught by nearly all the sole agent and its principals by launching SUV variants with 4x4 and 4x2 which has various engine advantages and modern features.
"However, from the two types of SUVs most consumers choose 4x2 type with 2 front wheel drive or rear only, because of price considerations, although it’s still equivalent to the price of a sedan," he said.
Based on Bisnis record several sole agents launched SUV such as PT Mercedes Benz Indonesia with premium SUV the New M-Class, and PT Garuda Mataram Motor launched Audi Q3 to the market.
PT Mazda Motor Indonesia also launched a new SUV variant, Mazda CX-5, and PT Kramayudha Tiga Berlian with a similar car that, Mitsubisi Pajero and the upcoming Mitsubisi Outlander Sport.
The predecessor, PT Nissan Motor Indonesia marketed Nissan X-Trail, PT Toyota Astra Motor with its Toyota Fortuner and PT Honda Prospect Motor with its Honda CR-V.
Riyanto said the consumers’ tendency to choose an SUV are driven by growing trend when the sedan market shifts to versatile sports car type and another type in recent years.
In addition, the road infrastructure condition in the country that quite damaged and frequently flooded making it’s inconvenient for the sedan type vehicle. (T07/TW)
