SEOUL---The Kospi index fell 1.9% to 1,853.86 as of 9:32 a.m. in Seoul, the gauge has fallen 0.3% this week.
Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in South Korea trading:
Metal producers: Poongsan Corp., a copper- products maker, retreated 3.9% to 26,900 won. Korea Zinc Co., which produces gold and silver, slipped 3.6% to 361,500 won.
Gold futures for August delivery dropped 3.1% on the Comex in New York yesterday, the biggest slump since April 4, while silver futures for July delivery slid 5.5%. Copper had the biggest drop in 11 weeks.
Samsung Electronics Co., Asia’s biggest maker of chips and flat screens, lost 2.5% to 1.196 million won. JPMorgan Chase & Co. cut its share-price estimate to 1.8 million won from 2 million won, saying the company’s second- quarter earnings are expected to be below consensus estimates.(Bloomberg/T03/TW)
