JAKARTA: Smartfren Telecom, a CDMA technology-based telecommunication operator, estimated telecommunication traffic on Eid ul-Fitr this year will surge by 50% compared to normal days.
Such increase is usually occurring a day before Eid ul-Fitr and the second day of Eid ul-Fitr. According to PT Smartfren Telecom Tbk Director of Network & Technology Merza Fachys predicted the data traffic on those three days will increase by 50% compared to normal days. Meanwhile, conversation and SMS traffic may less than 50% from normal days.
The largest composition of telecommunication traffic consumption on Eid ul-Fitr is expected to derive from data services as much as 70% while the remaining from conversation and SMS.
“As anticipation, we prepare 18 mobile base stations in areas where a temporary surge in traffic is predicted to occur,” he said after attending the company’s event entitled Mudik Asyik Smartfren on Thursday (8/16/2012).
In addition, the company will open service information and voucher sale post in 15 points along the roads in northern coast and southern path of Java as well as Palembang.
“We are cooperating with the state radio station [Radio Republik Indonesia] to inform the current situation of Eid ul-Fitr holiday exodus 2012,” he added.
This year’s surge may be similar with the traffic surge last year, in which conversation and SMS traffic rose by 50% while data traffic increased more than 50%. (T06/aph).
