SIMULATOR CASE: The Police Inhibits KPK Taking the Evidence

JAKARTA: Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) efforts to seek evidence related to the motorcycle and car steering simulator procurement at the Traffic Corps (Korlantas) Police Headquarter in 2011 fiscal year are still hampered by problems as several evidences that should be taken by the commission stuck in Korlantas room guarded by Police Headquarter.

KPK Chairman Abraham Samad and Bambang Widjojanto met with National Police Chief General Timur Pradopo. Johan said that the Commission wanted to take the evidence for further investigation.

Johan didn’t know the reason why Korlantas still hold the evidence. "I don’t know the reason why the Criminal Investigation disallow KPK to take the evidence," he said.

While at 14.00 Jakarta time, the last investigation team coming out of Korlantas building without didn’t carry the evidence. According to Johan, the meeting between the leaders and the Chief of Police was a part of the search.

KPK has been dealing with the case since January 2012 and now it has risen to the investigation level. In Act No. 30 of 2012 on Anti-Corruption Commission, when a corruption case handled by KPK is in investigation process, the others must stop.

Although the police are dealing with similar cases, KPK act cannot delegate this case because it has been into the investigation level. The confiscated goods seized by the Commission are documents.

Chronological

No one expected that a search conducted by the KPK in Korlantas had obstacles. Even for the first time the three KPK leaders, Abraham Samad, Busyro Muqoddas and Bambang Widjojanto intervened during the search which began at 16.00, Monday (30/7).

At first, the search ran smoothly without any obstacles from the police and Korlantas itself. Until around 22:00, a number of Criminal Investigation party suddenly came and asked permission from the police related to such search.

Aware of the obstacles, 30 people from investigator immediately contacted the KPK. Around 23:00, the three leaders arrived at Korlantas and explained the search.

After 30 minutes of discussion, the serach resumed. However, at 05:00 the police disallowed the investigation team to bring the evidence. They said the evidence is needed by the police who were investigating the driver’s license exam simulator procurement case.

Until this afternoon, the evidence is still stuck in Korlantas room with sealing and heavily guarded by Police Headquarters. No one except KPK investigators are allowed to enter the room. (T07/msw)
