BANGKOK: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono promised a greater role for Indonesia to address ASEAN interest at the G20 Forum.
According to The President, Indonesia comes to stand up the hope of ASEAN and developing countries in terms of economic relations with developed and industrial countries.
"It’s the entire world obligation to help poor countries so they can get rid of poverty. That's our act at G 20 Forum. We relate what’s become ASEAN or other developing countries’ hope," he said at the Leader’s Panel held on the World Economic Forum held in Bangkok today.
Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, and Laos Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong were also present.
Yudhoyono said Indonesia is pretty optimistic and ambitious enough to encourage development in ASEAN because personally Indonesia economic keep growing at 6% rate each year.
It is important amid the severe world economy slowdown, he added.
Thus, the cooperation and synergy among the ASEAN countries is needed so that ASEAN continue to grow stronger together as a whole even though the world is going through a difficult economic condition. (T07/msw)
