JAKARTA: Ministry of Industry issued 15 construction permits for investor interested in constructing mineral refining and processing facilities in Indonesia.
According to Director General of Manufacturing Industry Base Panggah Susanto, the construction permits are issued for 9 iron sand smelter, 3 bauxite smelter, and 3 nickel smelter. “As for other companies are still under process,” he said on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
Based on the data from the government, more than 50 investors are interested to invest in constructing mineral refining and processing facilities in Indonesia. They come from countries that import mineral raw materials.
The government received 84 documents for processing and refining facilities as of May 4, 2012. Those documents came from 7 operated companies, 27 companies before the publication of Ministry Decree 7/2012, and 50 companies after the publication of such decree.
Meanwhile, in order to secure energy supply, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara has received 16 proposals of electricity supply for smelter construction.
From 16 proposals, PLN has just signed memorandum of understanding with PT Bosowa Metal Industri and PT Bumi Modern Sejahtera. Meanwhile, the remaining proposals are still under process, including PT Antam. (T06/aph)
