JAKARTA: The production of automobile tires in the first half of 2012 fell 2.5% to 25.81 million units compared to the same period of last year of 26.47 million units, driven by a decline in exports which reached 7%.
Association of Indonesia Tires Companies (APBI) Chairman Aziz Pane said the Europe financial crisis has given significant impact on tires export volume which reached 17.03 million units in semester I/2012. The amount is 6.97% lower than the first half of 2011 of 18.22 million units.
"We are optimistic that the national tire production will not fall too sharply due to falling exports since the domestic market tends to increase with the automobile production expansion," he told Bisnis, Monday (23/7).
Tire production was fluctuated during semester I/2012 and peaked in May as many as 4.53 million units, then declined again to 4.2 million units in June. (T07/msw)
