JAKARTA: Motorcycle sale in domestic market continue to decline for 3 consecutive months.
Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) provisional data shows motorcycle sale in May declined by 1.27% to 615,047 units from 622,929 units in April.
In fact, the market was eroded by 0.6% in April compared to 626,689 units in March. The sale in March also declined 6.57% compared to 670,757 units in February.
Compared with the achievement in February, the market decline in May was 8.3% with an average monthly decline reaching to 2.81%.
Motorcycle cumulative sales in January- May 2012 reached 3.2 million units. However, AISI has not officially released the sale performance data of each motorcycle model in each sole agent.
AISI Head of Commercial Division Sigit Kumala said decline in motorcycle sale continued due to several factors, such as weakening consumer purchasing power as commodity prices have not improved.
In addition, several financing companies have increased the down payment to 20% from previously below 10% even though the down payment policy from central bank will be effective on June 15. (T06/msw)
