JAKARTA: PT Maybank Syariah Indonesia will decide to merge with its subsidiary PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk this year after completing the study on such merger plan.
According to Maybank Syariah Indonesia President Director Ibrahim Hassan, the merger has not been decided yet since the company is still seeking for the appropriate business model. “We are still evaluating the appropriate business model. It expects to complete this year,” he said yesterday, April 17, 2012.
The planned business model is that Maybank Syariah will acquire the sharia unit of Bank Internasional Indonesia or vice versa. Maybank syariah will merge into the sharia unit. Related to such plan, BII sharia unit will conduct spin off and become a sharia bank. The company has started the talking on such plan since early last year but it has not been realized yet.
“There is a possibility that BII sharia unit will conduct spin off or activated its sharia unit only. The most important thing is that the operational must comply with its business model if merged,” Ibrahim said. (T06/aph)
