MANADO: Tomohon, North Sulawesi-based Lokon Mountain has erupted again at 11.21 a.m local time accompanied by quite strong roar and had shaken poles and sills of local homes.
Increasing volcanic activity of Lokon Mountain started since Monday (April 23 2012) at 03.00 p.m local time until Tuesday at 09.00 a.m local time with total 180 volcanic earthquake recorded.
“The explosion was viewed quite strong with powerful roar sound. Even, the land was shaken, and so were poles, sills, and doors of local homes,” Junike Agustin, a local resident of Kinilow I Village, Sub-District of North Tomohon, Tomohon City.
Chief of Observation Post for Fire Mountains of Locon and Mahawu at Volcano and Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) in Kakaskasen, Tomohon City, Farid Ruskanda Bina confirmed the explosion. “The dust from the explosion can’t be observed because of the fog,” he said. (Antara/t01/aph)
