CILEGON: PT Krakatau Steel Tbk (Persero) will realize its blast furnace mega construction project worth US$621.81 million with a target of operation in early 2015.
Blast furnace is a plant capable of producing iron and crude steel in a single processing. The project is also aimed to conserve energy use.
It consists of 3 main plants namely Sintering Plant with production capacity of 1.78 million tons per annum and engine size of 180 m2, Coke Oven Plant with capacity of 500,000 tons per annum, and Blast Furnace Plant with capacity of 1.2 million tons per annum and volume of 1832 m3.
Sintering plant will produce raw materials for blast furnace, while coke oven plant produces coke fuel for blast furnace. Coke oven is also use to reduce iron ore.
“The plant construction is expected to reduce dependency on imported iron raw materials. The current national needs for steel reach 9.7 million tons,” said Krakatau Steel President Director Irfan Kamal Hakim when attending the project ground breaking Monday (7/9/2012).
As the implementer of blast furnace construction project, the state-owned company appointed Capital Engineering & Research Inc Ltd, ACRE Coking & Refactory Engineering Consulting, and PT Krakatau Engineering.
The China’s Capital Engineering is the leader of the consortium.
From the total investment value of US$621.81 million, Krakatau Steel will only finance 28%.
As for the remaining, the KRAS-coded company gained loan from the consortium of foreign and local banks, i.e. HSBC, ICBC, CDB, BRI, BNI, and Mandiri. (T06/TW)
