Korean car gains attention in Indonesian Market

JAKARTA: The demand of South Korea manufactured car over first half of this year is supported by the increasing number of new models and designs that appeal to consumers.

For example, sales of Kia car in the first half were up 195.27% from 2,391 units in the first half of last year to 7,060 units. With a record of this remarkable sales increase, Kia's market share rose 0.95% from 0.57% to 1.52%.

Another Korean car manufacturer, Hyundai, also recorded a good performance during the first half of this year. Hyundai had a market share of 0.59%, or up 0.8% from 0.51% last year.

During the first six months of this, Hyundai car sales rose 48.59% from 2,136 units last year to 3,174 units. Vice President Director of PT Hyundai Mobil Indonesia Mukiat Sutikno said the sales increase was driven by the release of the latest models with a better design.

"Demand is increasing demand very high. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet all of them, "he said on Thursday (26/07/2012).

He predicted demand for Korean car will continue to rise, accompanied by the emergence of consumer communities for Korean cars such as the Korean Automotive Indonesia.(T03/aph)
