JAKARTA: Indonesian shares dropped at the early trading hour, moving in the opposite direction from Asian stocks prices.
In the meantime, rupiah was weakening 0.27% at IDR8,980 per US dollar as of 9.43 a.m. local time.
The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) dropped 0.14% or 5.47 points to 3,977.96 as of 9.46 a.m. local time. The index has moved between 3,975.17 and 3,984.13.
Among the stocks listed on the index, 45 shares dropped, 52 shares rose, and the remaining 345 shares were unchanged.
Five sectors traded at Jakarta Stock Exchange were decreasing, led by finance as well as consumer goods. The other four sectors, including construction, property, and real estate and mining were increasing.
The heavyweights were PT Bank Mandiri Tbk which fell 1.44% to IDR6,850, PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk declining 1.20% to IDR20,500, PT Semen Gresik Tbk dropping 2.19% to IDR11,150, and PT Bank Central Asia Tbk falling 0.61% to IDR8,100.
The gainers were PT Vale Indonesia Tbk which advanced 5.33% to IDR3,950, PT Astra International Tbk rose 0.06% to IDR78,400, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk gained 0.72% to IDR3,475, and PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk rose 0.68% to IDR3,700.
BISNIS-27 Index, the index of 27 stocks launched by business daily newspaper dubbed Bisnis Indonesia, slightly rose 0.07% or 0.25 point to 342.70 as of 9.46 a.m. local time. The index moved within range 341.38-342.98.
Meanwhile, Dow Jones Industrial Average was closed 0.18% lower to 12,734.63 overnight, S&P 500 Index dropped 0.57% to 1,318.43, and Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 0.46% to 2,805.28.
Regional markets were mostly higher. MSCI Asia APEX 50 Index gained 0.37% to 817.68, Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 0.40% to 8,885.09, Hang Seng advanced 0.55% to 20,551.12, Kospi rose 0.43% to 1,965.35, and Straits Times Singapore increased 0.34% to 2,904.32.(NOM)
