JAKARTA: Indonesia will import 260,000 metric tons of raw sugar this year to fill idle capacity at state and private mills, Agus Hasanuddin Rachman, director of seasonal crop at the Agriculture Ministry, said.
The cabinet has approved the plan and the Trade Ministry will issue the permits, Rachman said by phone in Jakarta today. The additional supplies will strengthen stockpiles to meet demand for early 2013, he added. (Bloomberg/aph)
