JAKARTA: The government is now exploring the possibility of creating a joint venture with Toyota Astra to establish the type of hybrid automotive manufacturing industry.
Minister of Industry MS Hidayat said this afternoon will conduct a special meeting with Astra International, including the principals of Japan.
"[The possibility to form a joint venture between the Government of Indonesia with Astra] is included in the option that we are talking about," said Hidayat answering questions from journalists at the Presidential Palace Tuesday, May 15, 2012.
Hidayat said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono gives Ministry of Industry a deadline for 2-3 weeks to formulate the steps which should be taken by the government, so it can accelerate the realization of hybrid car production in the country.
He said there are 2 orders delivered by Yudhoyono. First, to attempt to formulate a hybrid car that can be immediately utilized for the benefit of Indonesia because it will encourage the use of subsidized fuel savings.
Second, Yudhoyono instructed to produce hybrid cars in Indonesia, either by in form of assembling system or manufacturing.
In a meeting this afternoon with the Astra, Hidayat said he will talk with Toyota Astra to discuss hybrid cars in Indonesia.(T03/TW)
