JAKARTA: Growth target of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of agriculture sector is hard to achieve as without new lands.

“Productivity of agriculture products has optimal point,” said Vice Minister of Agriculture Rusman Heriawan at the opening Discussion on Development plan at Ministry of Agriculture yesterday.

The contribution of GDP of agriculture which includes forestry, marine and fishery in 2011 was 14.7% or grew 2.95% compared with the previous year.

However, Rusman said, agriculture sector has characters which are different by industry and services sectors. Even the input in agriculture is increasing, the output will not necessarily increase.

To be able to make agriculture sector to grow more than 5%, then the new land is needed to create more rice field.
“It is done for balancing the rate of land conversion in agiculture sector,” he said. (T03/msw)
