Greenpeace appreciates Indonesia commitment in overcoming environmental issues

JAKARTA  – Greenpeace appreciates Indonesia commitment in overcoming environmental issues like reducing carbon emissions to 26% up to 2020 or 41% if the country obtain international supports.

After meeting President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Greenpeace Internationa’s President Director Kumi Naido in a press conference stated Indonesia not only showing its commitment to the environment but also urges synergy between economy, environment and fight against poverty.

He believed protecting environment and fighting poverty can go side by side. President and Naidoo also discussed about issues around the sustainable development conference in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Regarding the development of palm oil, Greenpeace claimed they it never against it but rather on how to conduct business with respect to environment sustainability so it is not only advantage the economy but also the surroundings.

Naidoo invites President Yudhoyono to visit Rainbow Warrior ship that will moor during the conference on the next two weeks. The campaign ship will visit Indonesia in 2013. (Antara/t05/msw)
