JAKARTA: The government will discuss regulation for national car program with car manufacturer and ask Japanese principal to not participate in the program.
“The government has discussed the platform for national car, such as Kancil, Texmaco Macan, Gang Car, Marlip, Arina, Tawon, Komodo, and Gea, with sole agents. Manufacturers require 800 cc engine capacity,” said Minister of Industry MS Hidayat in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 2, 2012.
According to him, the government is trying to formulate a regulation favorable for national car manufacturers.
“Later, the regulation will affect people purchasing power. Moreover, National Economic Committee (KEN) wants the policy to be implemented gradually,” he said.
The government will ask sole agents from Japan to not participate in national car program.
“If they participate in national car program, national manufacturer will compete with major principals,” he added.
The government has two cheap car programs, i.e. low cost and green car, regulated through regulation and it also covers cheap public transportation car segment or people’s cheap car namely pickup vehicle. It aims to provide affordable vehicle for people in rural area.
“Ministry of Industry has allocated IDR141 billion to boost the implementation of cheap car program. It will be distributed in form of subsidy to cheap car manufacturers for rural area,” he added. (Antara/T06)
