Govt rejects Kalibaru toll road project

JAKARTA: Ministry of Transportation may reject the recommendation from Indonesia Port Corporation or PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II to build toll road access and railways from Marunda to Kalibaru terminal in Tanjung Priok Port.

Director General of Sea Transportation Leon Muhamad believed the current access from and to Tanjung Priok Port is considered to be adequate.

“Access to the terminal still uses the current road infrastructure. There will be no additional access or toll road from Marunda to Kalibaru,” he said yesterday.

According to him, it’s not necessary to build a 6 km toll road and railways along Cilincing Coastline in North Jakarta until Marunda since Kalibaru terminal has only a capacity of 1.9 million TEUs per year.

Moreover, the ministry will soon issue the revised master plan for the development of Tanjung Priok Port. The master plan has been adjusted with the proposal from PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) II.

He said the revised Transportation Ministry Decree No.42/2011 on Tanjung Priok Port Master Plan is currently under final stage for issuance.

Such master plan may be issued before the issuance of presidential decree associated with the assignment of Pelindo II to work on Kalibaru project.

The rejection to build toll road access and railways automatically closes the opportunity for PT Jasa Marga Tbk to build and manage the toll road access to Kalibaru terminal. (T06/NOM)
