Govt Eyes 568,000 Kiloliters Subsidized Fuel Savings

JAKARTA: Government targeted the national movement of subsidized fuel savings by the end of 2012 to reach 568,000 kilo liters.

Energy and Mineral Resource Minister Jero Wacik after socializing fuel and electricity savings said the subsidized fuel savings in 2013 will be higher. "We will begin on June 1," he said.

The saving target was derived from subsidized fuel usage ban on central and local government, and state and local enterprises vehicle which consumes approximately 135,000 kiloliters.

Moreover, subsidized fuel usage ban on plantation and mining vehicles also targeted to save 425, 000 kiloliters.

Then, fuel to gas fuel conversion is targeted to save 8,000 kiloliters.

"Target BBG is still small, because they have to hold a bid first, so it can only be done in October," he said.

Jero said the official, mining, plantation vehicle will be marked with a sticker to enforce the subsidized fuel usage ban. For service vehicles, the ban will begin on June 1, 2012 in Jabodetabek area, while the mining and will be started on September 1, 2012 in Kalimantan.

In 2012, 33 new gas fuel stations will be built and eight others will be revitalized. The Government also distributed 15,000 free "converter kits" for public transports.

Jero said, in addition to the fuel the electricity savings program is targeted to reach 20% from the previous usage.
