JAKARTA: Responding the establishment of Google’s office in Indonesia, Trade Ministry suggested the search-engine service provider also to develop data centre in this country.
“We expect Google to construct data centre in Indonesia leading to faster internet access,” Board Chairman for Assessment and Development of Trade Policies (BP2KP) at Trade Ministry Bachrul Chairi.
The statement was communicated through an official letter from Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan having no opportunity to attend the official ceremony for office of Google Indonesia today on Friday March 30, 2012.
Bachrul viewed 55 million internet users in Indonesia should be served with fast internet access.
“Google isn’t only used as a search engine, but also as a device for businessmen to look for their customers. I [Gita Wirjawan] have heard explanation from Google’s management. Its plan is good,” Bachrul said.
in a term of infrastructure sector, Indonesia is viewed to have been ready to construct a data centre. Nevertheless, the technology and information company must obey applicable rules in Indonesia.
Stated in bill of Government Regulation (RPP) on Electronic Information and Transaction, there is a clausal that a company should establish a data centre.
Responding on the suggestion, Country Head of Google Indonesia Rudy Ramawy gave indefinite answer. He said the establishment of data centre of Google for Asia Pacific Region had been announced, namely in Singapore and Taiwan. (t01/aph)
