EARTHQUAKE IN ACEH: President instructs to keep on alert

JAKARTA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has instructed all parties to keep on alert even though there is no tsunami occurred in Aceh due to the earthquake with 8.5 Richter scale yesterday as the tsunami happened in 2004.

A presidential spokesperson Julian Aldrin said President has already commanded National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPN) to stay at the first line in facing whole possibilities.

“The earthquake didn’t create dangerous tsunami or sea waves as like as 2004’s tsunami in Aceh. Nevertheless, President keeps instructing to stay alert,” Julian answered a question of reporters in Presidential Palace on Thursday, April 12 2012.

President Yudhoyono has also reminded to execute anticipation measures, as well as to ensure early warning system worked well.

Head of BNPN Syamsul Maarif reported to President Yudhoyono that after huge earthquake in Aceh yesterday occurred, the condition in the region has been already under control and there are no victims.

Repotedly, the earthquake with 8.5 Richter scale hit Aceh yesterday and was centered in Simeulue, Aceh. (t01/msw)
